We have been living in Italy since 2014 and you know what? Yes, the food is “that good.” In fact, it’s better than that. I can honestly say that, with the exception of a mediocre piece of pizza now and then (which is still better than anything you’ll eat in many other countries), all the food here is good. Of course there are particular dishes that you may not like. For example, I fancy snails and spleen and a local dish called pajata which is lamb intestines. Oh, yummy, yummy! I’m an adventurous eater. Virginia, on the other hand, sticks with less exotic fare.

So, for this post, I simply wanted to show you some nice dishes we’ve eaten over the years. The think about typical Italian food is its simplicity. Here in central Italy, dishes are served with a minimum of heavy spices or sauces. If you order a beef steak or pork shank, it usually arrives drizzled with olive oil and is seasoned with salt. That’s it. No BBQ sauce. No spicy rubs. Just the thing itself. So, here are a few pictures I think you’ll enjoy.

A typical meat platter in Umbria!
