A Tandem Rally & Our 35th Wedding Anniversary in Michigan
Tomorrow will be our 37th Wedding Anniversary! We will be going for a tandem ride in the morning and we will have an nice dinner at a local restaurant called Le Mura. That’s going to be really nice; however, I thought it would be interesting to look back a couple of years to our 35th anniversary when we were in a very unique place, somewhere we never imagined we would live.
Bay City & Saginaw, Michigan
Our employer, UMBRAGROUP, purchased a factory in Saginaw, MI at the beginning of 2018. The owners felt that it would be helpful to have their two Italian-based American employees assist with the integration of the companies. So, in April of 2018 we moved back to the U.S on a 1-year assignment. We found an apartment in Bay City (about 20 minutes north of Saginaw) and settled in for a very interesting experience!
Tandem Rally and Anniversary in Grand Rapids
A highlight of our year in Michigan was participating in the annual Midwest Tandem Rally, which was held in Grand Rapids, MI. This was exciting for us, because we were able to celebrate our anniversary and bicycle with “our people.”
As it turned out, there were 254 tandem teams at the rally! Also, Grand Rapids has a huge network of bicycling trails and parks. It was a perfect venue for the rally.
Our 35th Anniversary was a wonderful experience! We never imagined we would be back in the U.S., especially in Michigan. Being together with a large group of tandem cyclists made us feel part of larger community, while at the same time, we were able to celebrate our life together as Tandem Spirits!!!
