It was a spectacular first day of April. It was sunny and about 75 degrees, and you know this meant that the Tandem Spirits were going to go for a ride! Now, this isn’t quite as simple as it sounds, because we are still in a serious lock-down here in Umbria. Technically, we are supposed to limit our outdoor activities to shopping or going to the pharmacy/doctor. We are allowed to exercise outside, but Virginia and I have only been doing long walks and working out on our treadmill. We haven’t left the city limits of Foligno since the beginning of January.
Well, that came to an end today. We did a relatively short ride, about 25 miles round-trip from our apartment here in the historic center to a bridge near the town of Trevi. The bridge lies on the regional bicycle trail that goes from Assisi to Spoleto. This is a great ride because the trail is isolated from automobile traffic and it winds through some beautiful territory.
And how appropriate was it for us to encounter this herd of sheep along the trail right ahead of Easter? Actually, we are familiar with this herd. They like to hang out at this particular spot along the trail.
This is a shot of the irrigation river that runs parallel to the trail. This is looking south toward Spoleto. As you can see, we live in a beautiful place!!!!
