A Pre-Anniversary Dinner

We celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary in September. The official date is September 4th. The evening before our Anniversary, we had dinner at one of the best restaurants in Foligno, Il Cavaliere. We had planned to go there last year for our 39th anniversary, but we both came down with Covid and had to cancel. It was worth the wait.

We started with a glass of Prosecco and one of our favorite appetizers, Strapazzo Tartufo, soft scrambled eggs with truffles, and we also had a dish with Burata and a creamy tomato puree.

We were having some rich foods, so we ordered a nice bottle of Bordeaux wine. For the first course, James had the Taglierini con Fiori di Zucca e stracciatella, which is a pasta with zucchini flowers and stracciatella cheese, Virginia enjoyed the Panzotti grana Tartufo, which is a stuffed pasta with truffles shaved over it.

Typically an Italian dinner consists of an appetizer, a first course of pasta, rice or soup, followed by a second course of meat or fish, with a side of vegetables or salad. The meal then ends with dessert, then coffee. It’s impossible for us to eat this amount of food. Since we both had an appetizer and primo, we shared a second course, taliata al Gorgonzola, a steak in gorgonzola sauce. And for dessert we shared a pear poached in Sagrantino wine and a side of vanilla gelato. Yum!

We’ve been to il Cavaliere several times and the service is always friendly and professional, and the food is outstanding. This was truly a special celebratory dinner for us and we remain true fans of this restaurant
