Archeology, Lake Garda & a Waterfall Park

Thursday was our last group adventure for the Green Week. The busses departed at 8:30 and we made our way to Fiavè which is the location of a prehistoric pile-dwellings (or stilt house) settlement that is part of of the prehistoric pile dwellings which are part a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The archeological site we visited featured recreations of a village built on stilts in a peat bog. There were approximately 1000 of these villages spread among six countries: Switzerland, Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.

The Archeological Museum in Fiavé

This museum was outstanding for its educational information and the quality of the artifacts. In many ways, these villages reminded us of those of the North American indigenous people.

Riva del Garda

After our adventure into prehistory, the group headed to a lovely town at the north end of Lake Garda, Riva del Garda. Everyone had the opportunity to wander a bit and have lunch.

Lake Garda is a very popular spot for German tourists. The town certainly has a Germanic look. The cuisine has a more Germanic touch as well. By the time we sat down to eat, James was ravenous!

After lunch we had the time to wander a bit and visited the Arcipretale Church of the Assumptiom of Mary in Riva del Garda. It is a lovely church!

Varone Waterfalls Park

Near the town of Varone there is a beautiful park which features two large waterfalls, gardens and a zen garden. We tried to take pictures of the waterfalls inside the caverns, but it was just too wet. Here’s a link which shows how beautiful they are.

This was a beautiful park. It was nice and cool because of all the waterfalls.

The Zen garden was beautiful.

We tried to take pictures of the two large waterfalls that cascaded down large caverns but it was simply too wet . You can see just how large this waterfall is!
